Saylorville Yacht Club Sailing School

The Saylorville Yacht Club Sailing School (SYCSS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to providing fun, safe, and high‑quality sailing instruction by U.S. Sailing–certified instructors. 

SYCSS has been introducing Iowans to the sport of sailing for over 15 years. Our graduates have gone on to enjoy every corner of the sailing world—casual cruising on Saylorville Lake, vacationing in the Caribbean, competing in national regattas, and traveling internationally while living aboard their boats.

Our classes are designed for adults of all ages and are conveniently located on Saylorville Lake, just a few minutes north of Des Moines, Iowa. Students learn sailing fundamentals on Precision 185 sailboats, which provide a stable confidence‑building platform perfect for new sailors. We offer several Adult Small Boat courses throughout the spring, summer, and fall, and can offer custom courses for those interested in learning to sail as a group or community organization, or for those who would prefer 1:1 education.
