The annual meeting was a great success. Around 45 folks showed up, ranging in age from 6 months to, well, we won't say /old/, but certainly up there.
New Board
The new board was voted in:
Mike Reyes - Commodore
Dick Leaders - Racing
Heather Reyes - Social
Bryant Alexander - Membership
Ashley Hardt - Secretary
Tim McConnell - Historian
Reid Wightman - Communications
Lois Dixon, Diane Beckman & Keith Kimsey - Sailing School
Business and Votes
The membership voted to merge the club and sailing school, which is a process that may take a few years to accomplish (yay legal hurdles).
Awards and Trophies
Trophies are why we sail, right?
Race results from last year's Wednesday Night Regatta series was also posted, and awards were given out at the meeting.
The overall winner was Mike Reyes on Nostalgia.
- Reid Wightman won the Spring Regatta, with Carson Downing finishing second
- Mike Reyes won the Summer Regatta, with Tim Olson finishing second
- Mike Reyes won the Fall Regatta, with Carson Downing finishing second
Rounding out the trophies:
Dick Hoffmann won our coveted Sportsman of the Year award for being the most helpful sailor on the lake. Dick loaned his boat for the sailing school, took new people sailing at every opportunity, and literally had new members scrambling for a spot on his boat during races so they could learn the ropes (er, lines) from a knowledgeable sailor.
Reid Wightman won the Most Improved Boat award, and if he wins it about 10 more times he might be an 'okay-ish' sailor (har har).
Upcoming Meetings
Our first race meeting will be February 25th (Saturday) at 9am at the Urbandale Library. See our Events page for details.
